A solo weekend trip (is it solo if you take the dog?)
An early start had me at Cone before it was warm so I was quick to cross the river and start the long climb up to Bull Mound. On Bull Mound Flo decided that deer hunting was the order of the day so I spent a very frustrating hour listening to her yelping as she tore off down into the Tauherenikau hot on the trail. She eventually returned - to a serious discussion about teamwork!
I continued over bull Mound and through Hells Gate arriving at Alpha Hut in the early afternoon for a late lunch and afternoon of relaxing. Later in the day the hut filled with walkers from Kime and beyond.
The next morning I headed to the summit of Alpha and then south over point 1,308 to follow the long spur down to Eastern Hutt Hut. The ridge isn't to bad going unless you veer of the top, which is easy to do in places however I managed to keep correcting myself, eventually popping into the river just a couple of minutes upstream of the hut.
Somewhere along this ridge I lost my camera so the following shots are what I managed with my phone.

I wonder what counts as a management retreat? |

The log book dates back to 1986 - not frequently visited |

Easy travel along the Eastern Hutt - never much more than knee deep |

Leaving the river for 90 minutes of 4x4 track |
Sunday was a long day, and it was lovely to see Nic at the carpark not long after I got there.
